Tours and Events

  • Recycling Center and Transfer Station Tours: Come learn about where your trash and recycling materials go after they leave your curb at 1426 Commerce St., Garland, TX 75040. The recycling center includes containers for citizens to drop-off metals, automobile oil and filters, cooking oil/grease, clothing, shoes, and single-stream items. Story time on litter prevention and recycling is available. Tours are available Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

  • C. M. Hinton, Jr. Regional Landfill Tours: The Hinton Landfill accepts municipal solid waste, construction and demolition waste from residents, private waste haulers and commercial businesses, taking in approximately 1,100 tons of garbage every day. Located at 3175 Elm Grove Road, Rowlett, TX 75089, the landfill’s hours of operation are Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for the general public. 

  •  EWS may provide a speaker, vendor booth, or truck demonstration for relevant events.

Classes and Volunteer Opportunities

  • Keep Garland Beautiful regularly sponsors neighborhood clean-ups and beautification projects. Come make a difference in your community, learn the effects of trash on our environment, the importance of recycling, and how to use our resources wisely.   • Composting 101 - offered once a year: Learn how to keep your yard trimmings and other organic materials from ending up in the landfill, while producing a beneficial soil amendment for all your gardening needs. Check the Garland City Press and social media for dates and more information.
